White mountain village, golf in the valley

Buying an apartment or house in Mijas

Mijas is two worlds: Mijas Pueblo, the white mountain village with flower boxes and views over the whole coast, and Mijas Costa with beaches, residential areas and the coast's largest golf complex. Together they offer more space for the money than most neighbours.

How it feels here

In the village the pace is slow — morning coffee on the square, hiking trails into the mountains and quiet evenings. Down on the coast many live in calm complexes with pools and gardens, ten minutes from everything Fuengirola offers. Mijas suits buyers who want calm, views and golf nearby, and who do not need city pulse on the doorstep.

Swedish-speaking agents in Mijas

Mijas is a large municipality and many agencies cover both the village and the coast without specialising. Solria is not an agency: we match you free of charge with a local partner agent who speaks Swedish or English and can explain the difference between the urbanisations, village properties and Mijas Costa in concrete terms.

  • The matching is free — we charge you nothing.
  • Ask the agent to explain the difference between at least three urbanisations.
  • Always use your own independent lawyer — never the seller's.

Living in Mijas without a car

Honestly: it is difficult. The village has buses to Fuengirola, but groceries, healthcare and errands usually require a car. In Mijas Costa some complexes sit near the promenade towards La Cala, where daily life can work on foot — but expect to need a car as a rule.

  • Most walkable: complexes near the promenade towards La Cala.
  • The village–Fuengirola bus runs several times an hour.
  • The mountains give views — but also hills and car dependence.

Golf in Mijas

Mijas Golf is the coast's largest complex with the two 18-hole courses Los Lagos and Los Olivos, and around the corner are Chaparral, Santana and La Cala Resort with its three courses. Many who live in Mijas chose the area precisely for the golf — and for coming home to calm and views after the round.

  • Green fees: roughly EUR 40–90 depending on course and season.
  • La Cala Resort has three courses and its own academy.
  • Several complexes offer stay-and-play packages for golfers.

How the purchase works in Mijas

  1. 1. Village, slopes or coast?

Mijas is three different lives. Decide whether you prioritise village life, views or beach proximity before viewing properties.

  2. 2. Budget and costs

Allow roughly 10–13 % on top of the price for tax, notary, registration and legal fees. Older village houses may need renovation — get a survey before bidding.

  3. 3. NIE and Spanish bank account

A tax number and Spanish account are needed for the purchase and for utilities and fees. We help you apply.

  4. 4. Viewing trip

We show properties in the village, on the slopes and by the coast so you notice the difference in daily life, views and car dependence.

  5. 5. Contract and legal checks

Before you pay 10 % on signing, the lawyer checks ownership, debts and that the house is legally registered — especially important for older rural properties.

  6. 6. Notary and keys

Completion at the notary, the deed and the keys. Then utilities and fees are transferred. Allow 8–12 weeks from offer to keys.
